2017 Egri Bikavér Superior (Bull’s Blood)
The Hungarian victory is attributed in legend, to their drinking red wine that the Turks thought was “bull’s blood”.
Varieties: Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), Kadarka, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Cabernet franc, Cabernet sauvignon.
Fermentation/ Maturation: 21 days of maceration in wooden vats. Spontaneous fermentation, no fining or filtering, vegan. Aged in 500 liters 20% new Hungarian oak, 80% in 2-3-4 year old Hungarian oak.
On the nose: Intense fruit scent with a definite spice. Warm sip, soft texture, slight spiciness.
On the palate: Young but round tannin structure, creamy, soft aftertaste.
