Bolyki Pincészet and Vineyards
2017 Cabernet Franc
Note from the winemaker:
Cabernet franc is a really not Hungarian wine, but also Karl May and Jules Verne weren’t real Hungarians, we just thought that and that suited us. We also don’t know the provenance of Johnny Bolyki, the Italians call him Giovanni Boichi, yet think him to be of Czech origin, since he became known as Janoska Bonyek in that linguistic area. He is like Franz Liszt, whom we think to be Hungarian, the Germans think him to be German, the French think to be French, and thus it is fine for everybody.
Ripe Cabernet Franc harvested from the tuff and brown forest soils of Eger’s Öreghegy (old hill), selected from 20 year old vines. It was spontaneously fermented in stainless steel tanks and vats, then aged in new and used 500 liter barrels for a year. A ripe peppery, spicy, excitingly oaky Eger wine with taut tannins.
